Why are foreigners so fascinated by Myanmar? There are many reasons. First, the people are warm and friendly, and you will often be invited into homes and shops to share tea or a snack. Second, our culture remains little changed by the world outside our borders, and Myanmar people dress, worship at our ancient, golden pagodas, and lead traditional lives much as they have for centuries. Third, our land is blessed with great natural beauty, from great snow capped mountains in the north, to jungles inhabited by wild elephants and tigers, stunning untouched lakes and rivers where Myanmar people engage in traditional commerce, and long stretches of clean, undeveloped beaches. Fourth, we are a people of great diversity and traditions. There are many distinct languages spoken in Myanmar, and with each language one discovers a people with a unique history and a colorful life.
WHY DO I NEED A GUIDE? ~
Myanmar is a very friendly country, but our culture and practices often can seem rather confusing for foreigners. And few travelers speak our language. I speak fluent English as well as conversant German. I have been guiding foreigners throughout Myanmar since 2002, and I love my job. How many people can say that they work at the Shwedagon Pagoda in downtown Yangon? And the travelers I meet become lifelong friends. I am happy to provide you with references of past travelers, usually from your home country. There is nothing quite like personal recommendations from satisfied travelers. I will make your trip as trouble free and pleasurable as possible.
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE ~
I shall confirm your hotel reservations in Yangon. You are welcome to do this yourself on the internet or through other means, or I can arrange your accommodations myself, at whatever standard you prefer. In Yangon we have deluxe hotels, simple hotels with basic amenities, and guesthouses, generally preferred by young backpackers. I can obtain competitive prices for lodging in Yangon and throughout Myanmar.
WHAT WILL IT COST? ~
We will discuss costs before your arrival. Prices vary depending on
itinerary, mode of travel, and desired standard of accommodation. Again,
travelers will often be pleasantly surprised at the low cost of travel
within Myanmar. Often my guide fees will actually COST LESS than travel
without a guide, as I am able to negotiate fees and arrange transport and
lodging with contacts throughout Myanmar.
UPON ARRIVAL ~
Upon arrival I shall greet you at the airport and direct you to your lodging in Yangon. Travelers can check in and immediately start exploring the beautiful city of Yangon, with our magnificent pagodas and colonial architecture and boulevards.
